Tried & Tested: Good Skin Microcrystal Skin Refinisher

By Zara Rabinowicz

People often think they need to spend megabucks on creams to get results, not realizing that their favourite high end brand often produces a chain store variant under a different name.

L’Oreal, for example owns the Body Shop and high end brand Shu Uemura- which often means you get the benefit of their ‘high end’ research in your budget buy.

Estee Lauder have gone down the same route with their Good Skin range which is the UK’s first professional budget skincare brand. They’ve designed their line to cater to the various different skin types and have kept the bottles colour coded so it’s easy to find products to suit your skintype.

The Good Skin Microcrystal Skin Refinisher is one of their hero products, purported to be a home-style microdermbrasion-esque product, that will deep cleanse the skin.  But is it any good?

The Refinisher contains alumina crystals which feel gritty to the touch, and you’re meant to apply the cream to dampened skin. Once you’ve placed it on your face you need to  massage it over the skin for around two minutes.

The amount of water used will affect how much skin is exfoliated, but I’d suggest to treat this with care, as too little moisture and it feels like sandpaper being scratched over the face. Once you’ve got the balance right, it feels strangely enjoyable sloughing away at your old skin and the massaging action is also good for stimulating drainage- which means bye bye puffiness.

When you wash it off with water it melts away, leaving none of those annoying scratchy bits behind- which I often find the case with cheap scrubs. After use, the skin looks slightly red, but in a healthy mountain air sort of way, rather than the effect achieved after a bottle of red wine.

Skin feels smooth to the touch, and strangely moisturized, with none of the tightness you might associate with scrubs. Be warned- you will find yourself breaking out after use, and though they say you can use this once or twice a week, if you’re in any way sensitive I’d stick to just once. The cream goes a really long way as a penny sized amount is more than enough for the whole face- use any more and you’ll get the sandpaper feeling I mentioned earlier.

I’m really impressed with both the quality and the price, and suggest you pick it up and try it yourself especially as it’s currently half price at the moment!

Currently £6.39 at Superdrug  for a limited time only! (Normally twice that).

this will sound mad, but this product really reminds me of Clinique's Exfoliating Scrub which works in exactly the same way. Estee Lauder owns Cliniques so clever repackaging perhaps?
