Tried and Tested: WAH Nails

By Laura Silver

Having built a mass cult following with urban girl's zine, WAH Magazine, the girls behind WAH recently opened up their very own salon, WAH Nails, so that we too could experience a piece of their signature, finger bling.

The salon, on Dalston's trendy Kingsland road specialises in adorning finger nails with anything from rhinestone anchors to neon illustrations of spongebob.

They are also happy to create bespoke nail designs using glitter, gems and every colour under the sun. You name it, WAH will do it. On the day I visited, the girl next to me was having a personally customised starry night affair decorated onto her nails which was silver glitter and rhinestone galore, and it looked AMAZING.

As well as being a nail salon, WAH is something of a trendy hangout. There are a variety of vintage clothes and books, and some impressivly garish ear-candy available to buy, and every Monday, WAH host a coffee morning, where you can have a manicure with your morning beverage, or just come in for a 'local gossip and chat'.

WAH Nails is like an East London community gossip hub of yore, with amazing vintage, and killer neon nails, and some brilliant local art work adorning the walls.

WAH's most popular nail design is leopard print, but I decided to go a bit different with a black and pink polka dot design. My nails are quite short, so an all over pattern worked a lot better than the illustrative styles they offer. The choice of designs was seriously overwhelming though, so I will certainly be growing my nails so that I can head back and get my rhinestone on!

The prices at WAH are also really reasonable. The cost pretty much depends on exactly what you have done, but you're looking at around £10 for simple pattern design, and around £20 for a full on glitter and jewel fest.
