Weak, limp, lifeless…my hair doesn’t curl like Cheryl Cole’s. It’s fine and straight and seems pretty set on staying this way.
So I was expecting my experience with Diva’s Hot Wand to be as anticlimactic as those I’ve had with ceramic rollers and curling tongs. Previously any curls I’ve managed to create have fallen out into wispy waves in less time than its taken to empty a can of hairspray.
But I had a Sunday afternoon to dedicate to my new toy and nothing to lose.
My first attempt with the wand was flawed: I burnt my finger – there’s a clue in the name with this bad boy – forgot to put in any product and was again made acutely aware that my hair was not going to surrender to the curl without a fight.
But second time round I was ready for battle. I approached the steaming wand with caution and worked taming mousse through my damp locks before blow drying.
Separating my hair into eight sections, I twisted each one round the wand and held for a few minutes before blasting with volume hairspray. The resulting spirals were neat, shiny and bouncy and stayed this way even when I combed through with my fingers to achieve a messier look.
After the hour or so of home hairdressing, I was ready for a nap – it’d been a long weekend – and when I awoke was amazed to find that the pillow had proved no match for my new mane.
If they can survive bed-head, they can survive anything: Check my new super curls.

The Diva Hot Wand is available from leading salons, priced at £39.99
