TK Maxx's New Revamped Boutique-Style Shop

By Laura Yates

Ah TK Maxx –the favourite shop of every bargain hunter. Though I tend not to go to TK Maxx every time I venture out shopping due to the various locations been a little out of my way, I always seem to find a gem of a bargain actually many of my faithful go-to items are TK Maxx.

When I had the opportunity to preview the revamped Putney store (which is going to have a more feminine and boutiquey feel) before its grand opening tomorrow Saturday 6th February, needless to say I was keen!

What immediately struck me was that the preview was quite an intimate affair with only around 10 bloggers in addition to representatives from the TK Maxx marketing, PR and buying team. I thought it was a nice touch that they hadn’t done a huge blogger mail shot type invite and really wanted the opportunity to talk to each of us individually about our thoughts and even ideas on the store.

It was refreshing to see fashion enthusiasts who actually wanted to be there as opposed to a sea of fashionistas going just for the sake of the invite – free champs blah blah. This shows that the team had done their research and taken the time to find out the websites and blogs that took an active interest in TK Maxx or to whom the new opening would likely appeal.

We all gathered around the back end of the store whilst the construction work was happening around us – perhaps this may not be to some people’s taste but I thought it was a great way to really get a feel about what TK Maxx is about and an opportunity to find out about the buying process and what really goes on behind the scenes. And of course, canapés and champagne was in full flow which was nice!

The team had pulled out a couple of rails of new stock (in store on Saturday) which represented the new key seasonal trends. A divine Michael Kors leather biker caught my eye which was reduced to just £150 and a bargainess pink Luella bag reduced to £349.99 and some timelessly stylish Pucci frocks from between £170 - £350.

I have to admit, I’ve never seen such high end goodies in any TK Maxx store I’ve been to but after discussing this with the team, you have to be quick when the new stock comes in, and of course, be prepared to dig around which is all about the thrill of the find. You have to be committed I suppose!

Some new handbags weren’t even out of the cage before I spied a Dolce and Gabbana beauty reduced from £1000 to £500 – I still can’t buy it but you have to admit, it is a bargain and these are items that simply won’t stay on the shelves longer than a few hours. If you are more of a High Street gal, you can also pick up some amazing pieces for a fraction of the price – a gorgeous Yumi peach shift style dress with ruffle detailing for example reduced to £16.99.

After browsing through the new styles in, we gathered around the boudoir style round couch – a new touch to the revamped store for an extra girly feel, and the Outerwear Buyer Shelly gave a brief talk about the trends for spring/summer (nudes, ruffles, peach, pinks, nautical, lace). Everyone was very up for answering questions and I actually left the event knowing a great deal more about what TK Maxx is all about.

So ladies, make sure you get yourselves down to Putney tomorrow for the main launch. Promising not to disappoint with added little feminine touches decor-wise such as softly curved walls and decorative mirrors, you can leave your other half in the cute seating areas, while you hunt out the perfect bargain!

The Powder Puff Girls will also be on hand to treat shoppers to beauty makeovers and manicures in addition to yummy champagne and canapés and of course, you will also get the first dibs on a huge choice of women’s high street and designer clobber and accessories for up to 60% off the RRP.

Many thanks to Lily and the TK Maxx team for a lovely, insightful evening and goody bag full of tasty treats!
