Being a Lush junkie, I'm always excited to try new products. I could barely contain my excitement I discovered they released a new Body Tint, Charlotte Island, and facial color supplements. Lucky for you readers, I've allowed myself to be a canary. I quickly napped up both to try for myself and share the results with you.
The Charlotte Island Body Tint is a lotion and sunless tanner combo. Being a girl who rarely sees the sun on her legs but always on her arms and toros, I thought it would be a good idea to give it a try on my lily white legs. The difference is noticeable.
I applied the product evenly to my lower legs, using the same amount I would if I was using lotion after shaving my legs. This was not enough body tint to make a difference in color, so I applied more. The difference was noticeable at this point, but only because I have extremely pale skin. It has a delicious smell, and the price tag isn't too terrible.
After using the body tint, I won't buy it again. And here's why:
- You have to wait for it to dry completely before folding any body parts or applying clothing
- You have to apply ample amounts of it for it to be a noticeable change, causing the time for it to absorb into your skin and properly dry to increase
- It smears very easily when it is drying, leaving obvious marks
- It washes off unevenly if you're not showering or bathing specifically to remove it
- If you brush up against your skin when it is drying, but not completely dry, it will come off and leave what appear to be awkwardly large freckle marks
- The color is a nice rich brown, which will look good on most people. But beware: it's a red-brown, not a true brown. For people like me with slightly yellow tinted skin, the red in the product shows a lot more, making it obviously distinguishable from a natural tan
Which, honestly, are problems many sunless tanning lotions already have. I'm not quite sure why Lush bothered entering this market if they couldn't make any improvements.
I was much more satisfied with Lush's new colour supplements for your face. I'd highly recommend visiting a Lush retailer and making sure your purchase the correct color for your skin tone. I applied the light yellow and light pink colors to my forearm and compared to my already made up face before purchasing.
The Colour Supplement can be used in myriad ways, with my two favorite being as a stand alone base color or in combination with your moisturizer for a light tint.
The product is very thick, so I'm inclined to recommend that most people who aren't used to thicker facial color products combine it with moisturizer until they get used to it. As a result, if you apply too much of the Colour Supplement, it smears off easily and resembles the cheap Cover Girl make-up we all wore when we were 14 because we didn't know any better.
If you apply a thin layer, however, you will be delightfully pleased with the product. I have oily skin and use Enzymion nightly. I apply the Colour Supplement after the Bare Escentuals Primer for oily skin, which helps control my oil with liquid make up. A thin layer provided me with a nice light coverage for those days when I don't need a full face, but want a little coverage. The Colour Supplement gives you a nice, even color: the downside of which is that you can look washed out without the application of bronzer or blush.
Even though I love Lush, I’m not afraid to admit when they’ve gone wrong. The Charlotte Island Body Tint is not their best product, but the Colour Supplement has great potential and serves its purpose.
