Occasionally, a woman just needs a small little something to be the down-size purse. Our day bags are one thing. They hold everything – a pair of shoes, a book, our month of haven’t-read-yet magazine subscriptions, our bathroom cabinet, and snacks for in-between every meal (i.e. a kitchenette). This bag is not ideal for drinking, for dating, for clubbing.
This is not news. We know this. And it's okay to want a little something to hold your ID, a key, some cash, lip gloss, and if you're me, a camera. (As an official member of the paparazzi, this, for me, is a must.)
Designers figured this phenomenon out seasons ago: shortly after the “little black dress” had to have come the “little black purse.”
But I must say, they're exploiting the hell out of our desire to carry a little leather something. I mean, how in the world is this envelope clutch made of metallic coated leather that looks like it's oil-stained worth $745 ($499 on sale!)? Or this calfskin envelope clutch, with merely a zipped pocket inside, worth $345? You can have the faux-snakeskin version for just $50 more!
A BitchBuzz-worthy solution? Go vintage. Go Etsy. Go second-hand. Go local. Or any combination of the four. You'd be surprised at what you can find off the runway that is much more original and not smothered in labels and image-induced prices.
To make my point: look at this fabulous vintage envelope clutch... for $8! Pair with your favorite black dress, and you instantly look dolled up and delicious with a dabble of bold color.
Or this darling teal MABeL™ clutch that can easily be dressed up for drinks or used to accompany you on a quick lunch date. And we're still under $50.
Have fun with these envelopes, a creative twist on the typical clutch or wristlet. Be creative in your shopping. And just don’t overstuff them with, well, stuff.
