Stop Dressing Like A Celebrity On Their Day Off!

By Cate Sevilla

There are a lot of things about fashion that drive me nuts. (Lindsay Lohan's leggings, those baggy-crotch trousers, Victoria Beckham, etc, etc.) However, there's a trend amongst young women everywhere that has to stop. I thought it would fizzle out along with The Simple Life. I thought that, just maybe, that crazy patch that Britney Spears went through would help everyone move on. But not even Miley Cyrus's ripped leggings could kill it.

You know what I'm talking about...

That "I'm a Celeb on my Day Off" look that women everywhere try to emulate on the weekends.

The big sunglasses. The Uggs. The designer brand hoodies and the overly priced track bottoms with words written on their ass.

Juicy!

Pink!

Or my personal favorite: The name of a city. Who doesn't want DETROIT written on their butt?

I really don't get it. You're not a celebrity. You do not need to wear those massive sunglasses as no one, trust me, is going to pop out of the bushes and try to take your picture.

Your Ugg boots may be comfortable, but unless you're on your way to the airport to hop on a Transatlantic flight, putting on a pair of trainers or non-Ugg boots isn't going to kill you. Perhaps you'll even find your dating life improves if you stop scuffing your peds around town in bright pink sheepskin boots.

If you're in sweatpants or tack bottoms or even your favorite pair of ripped jeans - diamonds don't mix. Do not flash your Hello Kitty bling or anything with the name of a designer written on it. All you end up looking like is someone who isn't comfortable with just being comfortable, and has to somehow justify their lax look by throwing a CALVIN KLEIN label in the mix.

"Sure, I may be wearing a matching pink tracksuit, but it's CHANEL. So it's OK."

If you want to wear something because it's comfortable and because, fuck it, you don't have to go to work today - then just own it. Don't try to dress it up with diamonds or labels or Uggs.

But, if you'd like to continue dressing like a massive jack-ass on the weekends, I've created the perfect outfit for you. It's got everything you need. It's Britney-Paris-LC-Lindsay-Miley-tastic!

Cate, you're hilarious. So stereotypical ... but so TRUE. The trend that bothered me the most a couple years ago (if girls still do this, god help me): Uggs & mini skirts. Worse: Uggs & RIPPED, pockets-hanging-out-of-the-hem mini skirts! Oh man.

"You end up looking like is someone who isn't comfortable with just being comfortable."

Amen, sistah.

Worse still: Uggs and Pyjamas (usually Paul Frank or something similiar) worn to the supermarket during normal daytime opening hours. Unless it's 3am and you have pregnany cravings or the munchies this look is wrong in every way.

Anna - Thaaaanks! :) Pockets hanging out of anything is like Britney Spears during her Cheeto/Truck Hat days.

Jaime - Agreed! What I can't stand, is the little ankle length Uggs and the girls that walk all wonky in them. You know what I mean? Like when their ankles cave inwards? GROSS.

Ok, where I live this isn't just a weekend thing...

I've also spotted Uggs & pajamas worn by a student during a night class. Seriously? What the hell have you been doing all day that you're still in your pajamas in the evening?

Enjoyed the article! Thanks :)

Wow-this is so true-I feel like an airhead with those words coming out of my mouth. However, here in ATL, all the girls dress like that-and if your not mirroring that image-you automatically are a freak. This is why Euro's frown on us. (Personally, I owe none of the items mentioned above.)
