In the depths of Brighton's much-loved lanes is a store called Noa Noa. It treads the right line between modest and trendy, and earthy alternative style that Brighton is keen on priding itself on. There's a lot of stores that Brighton is very proud of but this is one of my favourites.

Nothing prepared me for my first experience at the launch of a Viktor & Rolf for H&M. My friend and I woke up early and got into line at the Oxford Street store at 8am. I’m not a morning person and waiting in a long line up to spend money I didn’t have seemed even more ill-advised in the harsh light of morning. When 9am hit the doors opened and women went crazy. When I use the word “crazy”, I mean the most frenzied, literal sense of the word. I could barely walk as I was immedia...

The other day, I was trawling eBay for bargains when I came across a faux fur coat. It was a gorgeous creation, not to mention “on trend”, and as I was stocking up on vintage clothes for an upcoming fair, I thought I would give it a speculative bid. As it happens I won it for a grand total of 99p, and it turned up in the post yesterday.

Five pairs of stylish practical work shoes
Last year I bought a wonderful pair of mid-heeled court shoes – or pumps, if you’d rather – and have practically worn them to death. They look fantastic, are superbly comfortable and really do go with everything, but now I’m faced with the task of replacing them and it looks like it’s going to be hard work. Still, there’s lots of choice out there and so I thought I’d share my findings so far in case it helps you too.

Why I love fashion blogs, but hate Fashion Weeks
I like fashion blogs a lot – I read Mademoiselle Robot and Liberty London Girl most days – but the reason I like them is because I enjoy the personality of the bloggers and the quality of their writing. I don’t actually like reading about fashion. I am a naturally nosy person, so I like to hear about the liv...

Much is owed to Ada Zanditon for transforming the eco-fashion movement's image into something sexy, contemporary and capable of creating styles ranging from classic and sophisticated to cutting edge and avant garde. For a relative newcomer, the queue to get into her Spring/Summer 2011 collection presentation at On/Off was impressive; so much so, in fact, that I missed the first showing, where Ada's muse

I’m not really a jewellery person. My ears aren’t pierced as the holes closed up years ago, and all I really have is a belly button piercing that only really looks good when my tummy is feeling particularly toned. As for bracelets, they irritate me when I type at my computer all day, and I always forget to get my necklaces out and wear them, even when they would go perfectly with what I am wearing. In essence, I am a lazy girl, and although I appreciate the beauty of a good necklace, I simply...

Hannah Marshall’s catwalk show began with a (literally) titillating video from Rankin, shot in black and white with a topless model writhing around erotically, covered only in sheet of sheer black chiffon. Then, those white lights came up, the music started, and Marshall's models stamped down the runway in towering heels, slicked-back hair, and plenty of black and grey.

Ethical fashion isn’t always beautiful. It may not be PC to say this, but I’ve seen far too many “upcycled” and “recycled” handbags and knitted goods that, in all honesty, look like potato sacks with arms cut out of them. Or like...something that’s been recylcled. By hand. In the dark.Although I’ve seen beautiful pieces by ethically minded geniuses like Nicola Woods from Beautiful Soul - for the most part, unfort...

I thought I would grow out of it. Bows, alice bands (headbands), barrettes, peter pan collars and shiny black patent leather Mary Janes. Surely this wardrobe of mine would evolve when I became an adult. The teen years saw my style evolve from a short-lived and ill-advised grunge phase complete with stringy hair, Doc Martens, flannel shirts and a sour expression. At university I wore a lot of jeans and hoodies - straddling the fine line between “athletic” college student and potential ASBO. ...
