Over the past week the headlines have been dominated by the feuds between The Royal Mail and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) over strikes within the postal service concerning postal workers pay. This has got me thinking about the power and concept of trade unions and how they operate in today’s capitalist society.

The power of the internet!I know that is stating a blindingly obvious statement but I still find it astounding how you can literally become an overnight phenomenon with simply your computer and a webcam. One women in particular who decided to quit her day job in favour of YouTube is Lauren Luke who if you like make up and beauty, I’m sure you will have heard her name buzzing around like crazy in recent months.

Despite all the recession hoo-haa, online fashion retailers have been booming in 2009, with leader of the pack ASOS, making record profits. Whether it is because it never feels as real to buy stuff online, or as one fashion magazine editor suggested, because it seems a little shameful in gloomy times to bound around weighed down by shopping bags, there has never been a better time for fashion retailers to sell their wares online.

I've celebrated Halloween American-style since my late teens. Which means coming up with ideas for an outfit is getting a bit old. I've done the vampires, the fairies, the zombies and the Edie Sedgewicks. There are however some inventive role models online. Girls who've been an inspiration for me throughout the years with their skill of coming up with cool costumes. I'm an old Livejournaller and those of you who used to hang out in those parts of the web are probably familiar with

While it might not quite be winter coat whether just yet, it’s definitely time to crack out the woollies. Dubious as it might sound, there’s never been a more exciting (no, really!) time for knitwear. With designers like Louise Goldin and Markus Lupfer reinventing knitting as we know it, winter jumpers no longer have to mean something bobbly and shapeless knocked out by your mum.

On this week's X Factor, Rachel Adedeji, for her two rather impressive, totally deserved to get through to the next round, performances, was sporting some pretty amazing purple lipstick, in a deep, sheer amethyst shade. You may not think of X Factor as a style barometer, and to be honest, Rachel's high fashion look is probably what is earning her a perpetual placement in the bottom two, but she is totally working the New York 80's club kid that

It might come as a surprise to hear that I pretty much love Vanessa Feltz. The TV presenter always seems like a really nice lady (aside from that episode on Celebrity Big Brother) and I love her husband Big Ben too. When they were on Wife Swap they seemed like awesome fun and at events they always seem to be genuinely happy to be with each other, unlike some moany-faced, miserable celeb pairings.

It's that time of year again: fancy dress calls for the spooktacular season. Forget about the tired old superhero route, pirates have been done to death and no, you can't go as a naughty nurse again. You have to try to be a little bit imaginative. If you want to be like the hip kids, then steampunk is a must. Jump on this bandwagon before the rest of the world does, because the costumes are totally awesome. Like the recent
