Music and fashion have been intrinsically linked since long before The Rolling Stones emblazoned lips on a t-shirt, but in a climate awash with musician/model/celebrity/the guy from down the road's Nan collaborations with fashion brands, news of a band launching a clothing line can sometimes incite little more than a yawn.
Client however, an all female electronic band, treading the same path as the likes of Kraftwerk and Koolhass are different. Their collection, available on their website alongside their music and blog feels more like an extension of their creative output, as opposed to a licensing money-spinner.
Indeed, the collection, which its creator, band-member Client A, describes as 'utilitarian, anti bling, vaguely anti fashion and really quite timely' evokes a mood not a million miles away from that conjured by their similarly utilitarian music. Despite this incredibly basic concept Client manage retain femininity and glamour, particularly in the form of some wonderful fishnet ankle socks, much in the way that Alexander Wang does so skillfully.
As such, the pieces are not only stocked in trendy East London Boutique Start, but have been praised by fashion's harshest critic, Vogue. Although it is quite a conceptual collection, it is also totally wearable.
