There is something about the combination of a famished January bank balance and the the torrent of spring fashion edits that can leave you seriously hating on your wardrobe at this time of year.
But instead of making a break for your nearest Topshop and taking out a store-card, a good rummage through your clothes and a little creativity can be all you need to land yourself a personalised selection of fresh 'new' pieces, with minimal money spent. Changing the buttons on a cardigan, adding a ribbon trim, adjusting a hemline, or even just fixing worn-out items you have long given up on are brilliant ways to transform the things you already own.
So that those of us that don't even know what haberdashery means don't end up looking like they have been let loose in a nursery school art cupboard, this weekend The Guardian and The Observer will be giving away free craft guides to get you started.
As well as including all sorts of tips on crafting around the home and garden, Sunday's edition will focus in on basic clothes tutorials, with guides on how to mend holes, adjust the fit of garments and replace zips, as well as advice on re-styling clothes with dye, embellishments and the like.
There are even tips on how to achieve a professional blow-dry and do your own manicure, so you can save a few pennies on beauty too (best put towards a bottle of 'Greige' nail-polish come spring)!
The craft guides will be free with The Guardian on Saturday, and The Observer on Sunday.
