Get The Look: Lewis & Tarantino at the Whip It Premiere

By Rachael Gibson

It’s unusual for a film premiere to have a fancy dress theme, but then Drew Barrymore isn’t your average film maker. At the premiere of her directorial debut, Whip It, Drew invited guests to dress in outfits constructed solely from clothes found in their nearest dumpster/charity clothing bin.

Speaking from the red carpet Drew said:

“I was gonna go with the old ‘bad taste’ theme, but then I thought people might just dress in that tacky-but-still-a-bit-sexy '80s way that people tend to opt for at costume parties. Instead, I invited my guests to select the least attractive thing they could find in either a dumpster or thrift store and just show up in that.”

Prizes were offered for the king and queen of gross-out and we can now exclusively reveal who swept the board. Film director Quentin Tarantino took the award for worst-dressed male with his fascinating nudey-lady print blazer.

In a snazzy red shade with pin-up girls on the lapels and a tasteful fire-print up the cuffs, this jacket was presumably once owned by the owner of a strip club. Quentin cleverly completed the look with a pair of dad-tastic chinos and cowboy boots but let himself down slightly with the relatively tasteful white shirt.

In his acceptance speech Quentin left the crowd roaring with laughter as he announced, “I have no idea what you guys are talking about, this is my best red carpet outfit… I thought I looked pretty hot.”

Meanwhile, actress and wannabe rock chick Juliette Lewis showed up in an outfit which was instantly labelled by the judges, ‘a hot mess’. Curiously printed tights gave the impression of a painful skin disease, while a shapeless dress was awarded points by the panel for its resemblance to a bin bag.

Extra marks were awarded to Lewis for her intentionally mismatched accessories which one judge called, “seriously awful”. The overall look Juliette was understood to have been aiming for was '80s Madonna meets club kid meets crazy cat lady.

A look, we think you’ll agree, she achieved. Accepting her award Juliette also raised laughter as she announced, “fuck you all, you just don’t get my quirky dress sense. I’m quirky! QUIRKY, OK? Kooky, even.” Actors eh?
