Charles Darwin Inspired Jewellery from Bjorg

By Cate Sevilla

While diamonds and and platinum can be lovely draped across our chest in a necklace or hanging from the lobes of your ears – sometimes, you want something else. Sometimes you need something with some edge. A bit quirkier.

Sometimes you just need a big beetle around your neck.

Designer Bjorg Nordli Mathesin’s collection for Autumn Winter is inspired by Charles Darwin, and is full of natural if not dark elements such as skulls, bones, human hearts and pistols. However, Bjorg’s collection comes across as inquisitive and curious, rather than gothic or looking like something one could buy in Hot Topic or Topshop.

Bjorg’s AW collection is described as exhibiting “the mystique of unexplored lands and discovers objects of far away oceans, hidden treasures and adventurous forests”, and I couldn’t agree more. It’s absolutely fantastic, and incredibly refreshing to see something that is less Alice in Wonderland and more Edgar Allen Poe.

Here are a few of our favourite pieces from this inspiring collection...

Wow these are really interesting! Thank you for sharing these! I agree it is nice to have something like this that isn't tacky fake macabre!
