There is something I truly admire and respect about big hair. Maybe it’s beause I’m American. Maybe it’s because I like country music. Or maybe it’s because in another life I was some posh bird in the 18th Century who had hair like Keira Knightley in The Duchess.
With hair, the grass is always greener. If you’re brunette you want to be ginger. If you’ve got curly locks, chances are you’re constantly curling your hair. Or using a straightener if your hair has some serious wave. In my case, my hair is long and stick-straight, and therefore it it was curly and naturally sat about three inches higher on my scalp than is humanly possible.
And this is exactly why I love Bumpits so much.
When I first heard about Bumpits, I was unsure if they were from QVC or some Infomercial or Walgreens, but now I know that Bumpits are a gift from the gods. Or perhaps Marie Antoinette’s ghost.
Bumpits are described as “hair volumizing leave-in inserts” which can take your fair “from flat to fabulous in seconds”. This is, in fact, a very true story.
Bumpits are meant to save you from overly back-combing and teasing your hair, which can cause damage and breaking. So, if you’re hoping to some height likea ‘60s go-go girl, or a bouffant similar to Miss Winehouse or even, dare I say it, Cheryl Cole, Bumpits are the way to go.
Each Bumpit pack comes with three different sizes, one small, one medium, and one large. Basically, all you have to do is a little bit of back-combing with the teasing comb they’ve provided so that your Bumpit has some hair to attach itself to (it has mini-teeth like claw-clip) and then layer the rest of your little bouffant over it.
You can use the small and larger Bumpits to create super big hair, or on their own to help achieve the desired look. They’re seriously easy to use, and while you might be a bit paranoid that someone will be able to see the weird contraption in your hair, if you cover it correctly, it will stay in place. Plus, in your nifty Bumpit package, they give you a Style Guide booklet which shows you how to use the Bumpit when using more than one, a French Twist or even your standard Up-Do.
If you’re a fan of big hair, or are just after a bit more volume, Bumpits are definitely the way forward.
Bumpits are available in the UK at ASDA, Boots, Claire’s, Sally’s and Superdrug for £9.99.
