Some say Christmas is for giving, but I’m going to be honest here and say that I like to receive gifts too, and the more the merrier!
Santa came a little earlier than usual this month when I was lucky enough to be sent one of the hottest new beauty products in town, the Clarisonic skin cleansing system, which actually does what it says on the tin.
It was created by the same people who brought you the sonicare toothbrush – you know how they make your teeth feel squeaky clean, well now that how your face can feel. Until now the Clarisonic has been used on a professional only basis as a pre-treatment in top spas but they have re-modelled the product so it can be used by Ms Bloggs in the comfort of her own home.
To be honest, as someone who rarely gets spots, I was a little reluctant to believe the hype. My skin is rather dry and whilst I have a few blocked pores on the usual areas of my nose and chin plus a little rough skin on my jaw line at times, its not much to complain about and well, I thought it was more of a product of London life rather than anything that was possible to remove.
Well, I thought wrong.
After a week of using this brush, my pores are visibly smaller, nearly invisible and my skin is glowing more than ever, which is fabulous, and as for the jaw line, forgotten about it already!
It's very true that we are wearing a lot more products these days; moisturisers, self-tanners, foundation, powders, ettc, so there's even more for our cleansers to take off. What shocked me was that I did a little test with my normal cleansing routine: I removed my make-up and the cloth was dirty, cleansed again and it wasn’t dirty any more. I used the Clarisonic for a final whiz round and the brush was grey, and I don’t even wear that much product. Amazing.
The system also comes with a body brush and the casing is waterproof so it can be used in the shower. It was great for the dry spots on the elbows and tops of thighs. Apparently it is really good if you get spots on your back or bum.
I found it really difficult to clean my back myself as the design isn’t particularly ergonomically designed for the backwards wrist stuff, so a back-scrubber fixture would be great as you don’t always have a boyfriend/lover/husband to do the deed for you. I’d also like there to be a separate cradle to hold the brush as I don’t have a plug in my bathroom.
I don’t often enthuse so much about a product as I am as pretty skeptical, but I have had so many comments about my skin its ridiculous. Another close friend of mine has got one and she has had exactly the same response. It's only the cost of three facials, so you could even buy it for yourself, or you could buy it under the pretence that both you and your guy can use it as its not just a girl-thang and works for shaving issues too!
It is certainly a case of substance over style; it's not the most glamorous choice but I would certainly recommend this as a request from your loved one.
Prices start at £147 so it is similarly priced as the Sonicare toothbrushes were and you need to replace the brushes every 3 months, but this is technology at the cutting edge.
If you’re a last minute present buyer, and yes boys, I am talking about you, shimmy down to SpaceNK sharpish and bag yourself the beauty revolution of the noughties.
