Hiding in the historical winding streets of London’s Spitalfields is the eclectic, boutique salon, Hair and Jerome. Having won the award for Avant Garde Hairdresser of the Year in 2005, Jerome Hillion set up this eponymous salon two years ago as a place where ‘hairdressing meets French fantasy, where creative flair, imagination and attention gather to create an intoxicating salon experience’.

This is not a place for presenting a hairdresser with a picture of Agyness Deyn that you ripped out of the latest Grazia, but a place where stylists can work their creative magic to produce a cool and cutting edge style or colour that is not just perfect for your face shape and hair type but is wearable enough for the office.

Having spent the last eight years completely bleaching the life out of my hair, I decided it was time to make a drastic change and go brunette. For the job of transforming my straw barnett into luxurious brunette tresses, I felt I required more than the in-colour-out, hairdressing, so I booked myself an appointment with Danilo, the salon’s Style Advisor, who has over 7 years experience of hairdressing for salons and fashion shows.

Entering the salon is like walking into a Parisian boutique, decorated with plush leather framed mirrors, antiquey wallpaper, and an eclectic selection of artifacts. Despite the incredibly cool and fashionable atmosphere, staff were really friendly and approachable, and in no way snobby or intimidating - something I have often found in particularly trendy salons.

Following a thoughtful consultation, where Danilo ran me through an extensive variety of brunette shades, he came up with the perfect combination of colours to make my hair a sumptuous, warm brown. He then set to work by first applying a bright red base to replace the pigments stripped out through years of bleaching and then applied the brown colour.

After a relaxing head massage, a conditioning Schwarzkopf hair mask and much coiffing, I was left with gorgeous, chocolaty, vintage curls and I absolutely love it!
