Benetton's Curve-Enhancing Pin Up Sweater

By Cate Sevilla

While many articles of clothing are meant to help hide or disguise “a multitude of sins”, the Pin Up sweater from United Colors of Benetton actually wants to enhance and show off your curves.

When I wear jumpers or cardigans I usually opt for something that is a big bigger than it needs to be, sot aht it drapes over my curves rather than hugging them. For those of us with a bigger cup-size, most jumpers won't fit or stay buttoned anyway, so buying something baggy is unavoidable.

So, when I first heard about the Pin Up sweater, I was a bit dubious. What exactly did they mean by "enhancing"? Was there padding in it? Would my boobs end up looking like lethal weapons that could poke someone's eye out? And if this sweater "hugged" my "curves", did this also mean it would cling to my stomach, revealing the perfect outline of the Turkey Feast sandwich I ate for lunch?

However, after testing out a Pin Up sweater of my very own, I can tell you they are amazing. Seriously. If I could wear one every single day of the week I would. (And considering there are six different colours, technically, I could...)

How it Works

Benetton are experts in knitwear, and when creating the Pin Up sweater, they considered a woman's “3-dimensional form”, which seems to be a rarity in fashion these days. By adding carefully placed stitching that’s almost invisible, the sweater is developed to nip-in and flatter your chest rather than bunching up or hanging in an odd way.

There's no added padding, not harsh stitch lines that will cause unflattering lines - just smooth curves and soft fabric that clings in all of the right places. (Although the models below don't have much for "curves" other than across their chest, you get the picture...)

Pin-Up Sweater

The Pin Up sweaters come in a variety of colours - red, blue, green, grey, white and black - and designs, including cowl-neck, short-sleeved with a crew-neck, a button-down cardigan, as well as the classic scoop-neck.

Soft, warm, and flattering, this sweater can be dressed-up or down, and I’ve loved wearing mine with everything from a high-waisted A-line skirt, to a pair of skinny jeans!

As this jumper is for curvy girls it would of been nice to see models with curves apart from a bust. It would of been great to see a range of different sized ladies to show a wider appeal - a missed opportunity I sense. Shame.

Ooh, knitwear that fits? This is relevant to my interests. Thanks for the heads-up!
