While the male designers showing at London Fashion Week, such as Jeff Garner, Henry Holland, David Koma and Johnny Blue Eyes - may be blowing our minds, there are also many a talented female designer out there who deserve just as much praise.
BitchBuzz made a point of seeing as many presentations and shows by female designers as we could, and we’ve been incredibly impressed with what we’ve seen. From Josie Beckett to Jena.Theo to Sass & Bide – brands designed by women have seriously impressed us this season.
Three specific female designers at London Fashion Week truly represented that not all women want the same thing, and that not all forms of high fashion fashion have to be so similar. In my opinion, the following three designers and design teams marched to beat of their own drum and delivered something unique, wearable, and not just for your stereotypical fashionista.
Twenty8Twelve
Romantic Glam Boho
Sienna Miller’s style was always something that confused me – but her bohemian vibe mixed with her sister Savannah’s vision was the perfect combination for this season’s Twenty8Twelve “Swimming Horses” collection.

The collection showcased textures and fabrics ranging from flapper-esque fringe, denim, velvet, and oversized knitwear. Olive military jackets were paired with the long jersey dresses and Twenty8Twelve’s Glam Rock theme shining through in multicolored, distressed denims and short gold and black dresses.

Orla Kiely
Proper Kitschy Retro
Orla Kiely’s presentations at London Fashion Week are always fun to observe, but her AW10 collection is particularly wearable, and approachable. Flowing tunic dresses with giant bow prints, sailor collars, stripes, navy and bright yellow dresses filled the Portico Room in Somerset House, and Kiely did not disappoint.

Floral dresses and handbags paired with tan leather satchels and bows of all shapes and sizes, I think Orla Kiely’s collection aims to please vintage lovers and and goers of afternoon tea. While the whole collection could be a bit Twee if you were to wore multiple pieces together, I think each piece on their own is lovely and could make any outfit look incredibly sophisticated with a touch of eccentricity.

Gemma Slack
Naughty Erotic Victorian
Slack’s gorgeous bondage and Dracula inspired designs are all about a feminine dominance. Her designs are fierce, sexual and yet encompass a delicate touch of sophistication. Slack uses unconventional materials, metals and chains and combines them with the “delicate drapery” of chiffons. The result is fantastic.

While most of her designs would be more likely found on Lady Gaga than your average woman on the street – if you’re looking for something with a vampire-esque with a costume feel for a dramatic night out on the town, Gemma Slack is your girl.
