It’s the season of the wedge heel. Not satisfied to be hidden away in the back of our closets until summer and no longer only paired with flared jeans and bohemian maxi dresses, the wedge has shed it’s hippy image and is masquerading as the new power shoe. A pair of three-inch black patent wedges have become the shoe of choice for a certain breed of new female politicians in Washington, D.C. The Kate Spade “Halle” wedges, a round toe, shiny black patent slim wedge heel, was even the focal poi...

Buying jeans is probably one of my least favourite things to do. I know all women say this, and that buying jeans has been the subject of many a Cathy comic strip – but women seriously hate buying jeans. In fact, according to Levi’s, who recently conducted a survey of over 60,000 women from different cultures and countries, women mostly described their experience buying jeans as “loathsome” and “soul sucking”. Sounds about right.

Currently a regular feature on the internet are reports of the mounting problems facing American Apparel. But as the company head further towards the point of no return, does anyone really care any more? For several months now we've been hearing of huge debts - $120 million to be precise - declining sales and allegations of sleaze involving the company's founder Dov Charney. In recent weeks, however, the news stories have multiplied and seems like a number of newspapers and websites are...

That time of year is here again. The summer has come to an end (with a big, wet splash of rain), and suddenly all the magazines and blogs are filled to the brim with what you should and shouldn’t be wearing for the coming months of wet, windy and downright miserable weather that we like to call the A/W season. Of course, as always, people should just wear whatever they feel pretty, comfortable and happy in. However, if you do feel like buying a few key pieces then you will have to sort throug...

I haven’t worn a pair of trousers in over a year. The last time I distinctly remember wearing a pair of jeans is when I sensibly decided to forego wearing my floral empire waist dress when I moved house last spring. Hauling boxes and heavy lifting has never been my forte and doing it in a dress and ballet flats is just ridiculous, right?

I usually don’t get all that excited about designers collaborating with department stores or high street shops to do a special collection for the people who can’t afford their original designs. However, I have to admit that I am head over heels for Ted Baker’s lingerie line for Debenhams, aptly called

Oh leather skirts. You used to be the staple item for trashy biker girls or kinky dominatrixes. How you have evolved. Now you're gracing the bums of many a fashionista out there and I suddenly want you, badly.Leather skirts are a thing to look out for this autumn. We've seen them on the runway for ...

There are three words that can make most women cringe the moment they hear them: bathing suit shopping. These words conjure memories of gross paper “stickers” brushed up against our nether regions, the moral ambiguity of trying on bottoms with or without underwear, the feeling of repulsion when you immediately know that it’s just not going to fit, and if you’re lucky, witnessing teenagers trying on the same suits three sizes smaller and strutting around talking about getting laid in ...

For a lot of women, hair accessories are a thing of the past - something that your mother clipped in your hair before going to Muffy’s eighth birthday party or what was perched on your head on the family Christmas card portrait back in 1989. In the past couple of years, hair accessories have come into their own for us “grown-ups” who like a bit of extra adornment. I dare not mention the word “scrunchie” for fear of being ostracized as old and uncool but headbands, alice bands, barrettes and ...

I am obsessed with Sherlock. It’s the truth. I am obsessed to the point where I will turn any conversation with any given person into a conversation about show. I look my company in the eye with an intense seriousness and whisper, “You watched Sherlock, right?” If they say yes, we hold hands and squeal and write fan fiction together about what we’d...
